How we quote electrical work

No plucked-from-the-air averages: what genuinely drives the price of electrical work, and how our fixed written quotes work.

Search for the cost of a rewire or a fuse box change and you will find pages of national averages. They make interesting reading and terrible budgeting, because no average knows your house. Rather than publish numbers that would be wrong for your property in either direction, here is exactly how we price work, so you know what to expect before you get in touch.

What actually drives the price

  • Scope. The number of circuits, points and fittings involved. A dozen sockets is a different job to forty.
  • The state of what is there. Sound earthing and bonding, or work needed before anything else can start? An EICR often answers this before quoting.
  • Access. Empty rooms with lifted floorboards are quick. Full rooms, finished decoration, solid floors and tight lofts take longer, and time is most of the cost of electrical work.
  • Materials and equipment. Which consumer unit, which cameras, which charger. We quote specific kit, not allowances that grow later.
  • Certification. Testing, certificates and building control notification are included where the work requires them, never a surprise extra.

How the process works

Tell us what you need by phone, WhatsApp or the contact form. Photos help enormously: a picture of your fuse box or the room in question often replaces a visit entirely. Where a visit is needed to quote properly, it is free and without obligation.

You then get a fixed price in writing. Fixed means fixed: if a job takes us longer than we allowed, that is our problem, not yours. The only thing that changes a quote is a change to the job itself, and that gets agreed with you in writing before it happens.

Comparing quotes fairly

When you compare electricians, check the same things are actually included: the specific equipment, making good, waste disposal, testing and certification, and whether the person quoting is registered with a scheme such as NICEIC so the work is notified and covered. A cheap quote that skips certification is not the same job.

Every installation we complete is certified and backed by our 5-year labour guarantee.
