I called CG Electrical in to complete the installation of a shower and was so happy with what they did, I have since had them back to change my fuse board and completely rewire a large extension for me. I found Connor to be so helpful and the quality of work was second to none, the price was exactly as quoted on every occasion and everything was left clean and tidy.... Connor even hoovered the carpets before leaving every day! I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Connor and CG Electrical to anyone and they are certainly our go to for all our future electrical work. Highly recommended!!
Emergency Electrician in Essex.
No power, a burning smell, a board that keeps tripping, water in the electrics? Call now. We answer 24/7 and you speak to an electrician, not a call centre.
What’s involved
It starts on the phone. Tell us what’s happening and we’ll talk you through making things safe right away, usually that means switching off at the main switch and keeping everyone away from the problem. If it needs a visit, we come out, find the fault, and make the installation safe. Where a full repair is possible on the spot we do it there and then; where it needs parts or daylight, we isolate the dangerous part safely so the rest of the house keeps working, and come back to finish the job properly.
One thing worth checking before you ring: if the whole street is dark, it’s a power cut rather than your electrics. Call 105, the free national power-cut line, to report it.
How long it takes
The phone triage takes a few minutes and costs nothing. For visits, making the installation safe is almost always done within the first visit. A full repair depends on the fault: many are fixed the same visit, and anything needing parts gets isolated safely with a clear plan for the return visit.
How we quote
Emergency work is quoted honestly, like everything else we do. When you ring we’ll explain the callout arrangement before we travel, so you can decide with no surprises. Once we’ve seen the fault you get a clear picture of what’s needed: what we can fix now, what can wait, and what it’ll involve. Any follow-up work is quoted in writing before we book it.
What you get
- A phone answered 24/7 by the electrician, not an answering service.
- Straightforward make-safe advice the moment you call, before we even set off.
- The dangerous part found, made safe, and explained in plain English.
- Same-visit repair wherever the fault allows it.
- A written quote for any follow-up work, before it’s booked.
- NICEIC Registered work, certified where certification applies.
Frequently asked
What counts as an electrical emergency?
A burning smell or scorch marks around sockets or the fuse box. A buzzing or crackling consumer unit. Water getting into electrics. Bare or damaged cables you can touch. Losing all power when your neighbours still have theirs. A circuit that keeps tripping the moment you reset it. If any of those is happening, ring us now.
What should I do while I wait?
If it’s safe to reach, turn everything off at the main switch on your fuse box. Keep everyone away from water near electrics, never touch it. Don’t keep resetting a breaker that trips straight back off, it’s tripping for a reason. If you see flames, get out and call 999 before anything else.
Do you really answer 24/7?
Yes. We’re a small firm, so the phone goes to the electrician rather than a call centre. If we’re mid-job we’ll still pick up or ring straight back, talk you through making things safe, and get to you as soon as we genuinely can.
How do I know it's not just a power cut?
Check whether the neighbours or street lights are off too. If the whole area is out, it’s the network, not your installation. Call 105, the free UK power-cut number, and they’ll tell you what’s happening. If it’s only your property, that’s when you call us.
Will it cost more because it's an emergency?
We explain the callout arrangement on the phone before we travel, so you decide with the facts in front of you. There are no surprise extras: whatever the time of day, you’ll know the arrangement before we set off, and any follow-up work gets a written quote before it’s booked.

After having some concerns about quality of the electrical installation to my sheds, I contacted CG Electrical who then sent out an Electrician to me to have a look. He inspected everything and subsequently told me it was unsafe. He talked me through everything that was wrong with it and put it into layman's terms for me so I could clearly understand what the issues were and everything he said made perfect sense. The inspection and quote was no fee and no obligation and as soon as everything was agreed the electrician was back as soon as possible to suit me to get the work done. The work itself went above and beyond my expectations despite him being aware that it was only a shed and I wasn't too fussed on how it looked. The price was definitely more than fair, especially for the job undertaken. Overall, I have no complaints whatsoever and will definitely be contacting CG Electrical with any further electrical needs. Can not recommend these guys enough.
